Introducing video responses

Our goal has always been to make the data you collect through our AI-moderated research studies feel as natural and high-signal as traditional face-to-face conversations. To make it easier for you to develop an understanding of who a participant is, and see how they behave and respond to what you’re asking them during your study, we’re now bringing video capture into our AI-moderated studies.

You can control exactly how participants record responses to your study questions on Wondering using the User input method setting:

In voice first, participants press to record a voice response, talk, and submit their response when they’re done:

If you prefer to let participants type their response, the “text first” mode lets you display a text box so participants can type their response:

To let your participants record a video response to your questions, the new “Voice and webcam recording” options lets participants press the recording button to record a voice response, talk, and submit their response when they’re done. Their web camera will record their face as they record their response. To begin with, this new mode is available for Explore, Image Task, Rate and Choose blocks, and will be rolling out to other blocks later this year.

When participants reach a block where they can submit video responses, they’ll be prompted to give permission to their web camera by the AI moderator. This works across studies on both desktop and mobile devices.

Each video response your participants record will appear inline within the conversation transcript, so you can easily view them and share them with your team.
